Ugadi, also known as Yugadi, is a festival celebrating New Year’s Day for Hindus from the Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana states of India.
This colorful, musical and delicious festival is a banquet for the senses, but some other sects of Hindu do not recognize this date as their new year. In the Hindu tradition, a festival is still an important place. So what does the plantar include? And when it falls in 2018?
The word Ugadi means 'a new beginning', and the festival is celebrated on the first day of the Lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra's Hindu calendar. It usually falls in the months of March and this year falls on Sunday 18 March. The preparation of the festival begins a week before due to the amount of food and decoration. The houses are cleaned well, the fresh mango leaves are known around the front doors for the best wishes. People buy themselves new clothes for the festival, press the front of their houses with colorful designs and use coconut as a decoration.
On the day itself, families will begin by showering and covering themselves in perfumed oil, then perform prayers at their temple.
